Alaska Pictures - dark cloudy conditions/moving

I took these pictures of the Juneau, Alaska bay we have been entering to get to port with my Nikon D40x. Conditions were heavily cloudy and our boat is constantly moving at around 10 kts so I finally figured out my best option was the "sports" position using the flash. I had it on manual focus. I want to learn how to take a very good picture, sharp, while a person maybe running without it blurring. This is a main goal. If you use an image please email me and link my blog to your website. the beginning to enlightment using the Nikon D40x

So I'm really journaling all the knowledge I'm learning about my new Nikon D40x digital camera. I just recently bought it about only five days ago in a Victoria, B.C. Canada camera store. I'm pysched, speechless, and already searching on the internet to improve my use.
